PROOF OF IMAGE

Images can be copied.
Proof cannot.

The onchain proof layer for images. Register any image file on BNB Smart Chain and verify it anywhere — the file never leaves your browser.

In that post Satoshi proposed bolting a Bitcoin payment mechanism onto an image host, and linked imagez.ws as an example of a site running the software. Sixteen years later images can be generated, copied and altered instantly, and the hard part has moved.

Storage was the original problem. Proof is the new one.

MARCH 24, 2010

“It might be the first fully automated service available to buy with Bitcoins.”
Satoshi Nakamoto's March 24, 2010 bitcointalk post linking imagez.ws
Unretouched screenshot of bitcointalk.org, topic 83, reply #7. The domain appears as http://www.imagez.ws/ under “An example of a site running the software”.

Anyone can copy an image.
Nobody can copy its history.

WHAT A PROOF IS

Proof of Image is a cryptographic record proving that a specific image file was registered by a blockchain address at or before a specific point in time.

And what it deliberately does not claim:

  • That the image was not generated or altered by AI.
  • That the events shown in the image actually happened.
  • That the registrant is the author or copyright holder.

HOW IT WORKS

  1. 01

    Hash locally

Your browser computes a SHA-256 of the exact bytes plus a perceptual hash. Nothing is uploaded.

  2. 02

    Register onchain

One transaction writes the fingerprint, your address and the block. Register before you publish and nobody can front-run you.

  3. 03

    Verify anywhere

Drop any image back in. Exact matches resolve to their proof; re-encoded copies still resolve through the perceptual hash.
